LOVE THY LUCHA FUNDRAISER COMES TO CHULA VISTA TO SUPPORT YOUTH PROGRAMS

Live Lucha Libre, Community Gathering, and Purpose-Packed Fun on July 19 at The Refinery

San Diego, CA — The Love Thy Neighbor Movement proudly presents LOVE THY LUCHA, a one-of-a-kind Lucha Libre wrestling event and community fundraiser taking place on Friday, July 19 at The Refinery (494 E St, Chula Vista). The evening kicks off at 6:00 PM and promises live high-flying wrestling action, food vendors, live music, and family-friendly entertainment.

All proceeds from the event will support Love Thy Neighbor’s youth outreach programs, which include mentorship, creative arts education, juvenile hall outreach, and school partnerships across San Diego and Tijuana.

The event will feature Lucha Libre All-Stars in a full-scale wrestling showcase, with matches announced live in the ring. Attendees will experience the energy of traditional Lucha Libre while contributing to impactful, life-changing programs for underserved youth.

“We’re using culture to bring people together for a cause that matters,” says Ruben Torres, founder of Love Thy Neighbor. “This isn’t just about wrestling — it’s about rallying the community to give hope and opportunity to our young people.”

OUR MOVEMENT

Love Thy Neighbor is a grassroots movement dedicated to uplifting communities through acts of service, mentorship, and creative expression. Founded by Ruben Torres in 2010, Love Thy Neighbor has been actively involved in serving communities across San Diego and Tijuana, bringing hope and transformation through outreach programs, youth mentorship, and cultural initiatives.

Our mission is to inspire and empower individuals—especially at-risk youth—by fostering creativity, unity, and opportunity. We organize toy drives, school supply giveaways, food distributions, and community cleanups, ensuring that families in need receive essential resources. Through our arts-based rehabilitation programs in juvenile detention centers, we provide incarcerated youth with creative outlets, mentorship, and second chances.

Beyond San Diego, Love Thy Neighbor has extended its outreach to shelters and orphanages in Tijuana, offering support, supplies, and encouragement to vulnerable children. Our annual toy drives have brought joy to thousands of kids, particularly those affected by poverty and illness.

At Love Thy Neighbor, we believe in the power of community, collaboration, and giving back. By working alongside artists, athletes, musicians, and local leaders, we create opportunities for growth, healing, and unity. Join us in making a difference—because when we love our neighbors, we build stronger, more connected communities.

LOVE THY NEIGHBOR is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of those in our community by launching and engaging programming, events, and initiatives that will provide education, resources, tooling and opportunities to the under served members in the community.

COMMUNITIES WE SERVE

LTN has worked alongside many community organizations and your toy and clothes donations to our annual events have benefitted children and families at the YWCA (homeless families in San Diego), Dreams For Change, San Diego Dream Center, Es Por Los Niños in Tijuana (organization to help children with Aids), the Los Laureles neighborhood in Tijuana, Colonia Primo Tapia in Rosarito, The Training Center (men's home in Spring Valley Ca), Monarch School (homeless students in San Diego), Stand Up for Kids Shelter, San Ysidro School District, New Jerusalem (Haitian Refugee Shelter), Sonrisa De Angeles Orphanage in Tijuana, Lowrider Community in National City, Emilio Nares Foundation, as well as directly to the Homeless Community on the streets in downtown San Diego, and several private families with financial hardships that would not be able to provide a Christmas for their family.

For 3 years LTN curated the annual art shows for the National City's Chamber of Commerce Tree lighting Ceremony.

In support of the SDPD, we have come alongside the Families In Motion program to share our stories at their youth diversion programs.
