Breaking Barriers

BREAKING BARRIERS

A therapeutic acting class for the youth in underserved communities using the arts to help them overcome traumas and learning barriers. The Breaking Barriers program hopes to address issues that are affecting today's youth such as anxiety, depression, acceptance, and expression. This trauma-informed program uses elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy expressed through the art of acting, leading to a pathway of self discovery and redirects youth onto a positive life path by building artistic and creative skills.

Our past classes have been in partnership with San Diego Police Department’s Gang Intervention Unit and has allowed for the participation of highly at-risk youth that are recently justice-involved. The Breaking Barriers class is used as crime prevention and youth diversion in introducing at-risk youth from underserved communities to Creative Arts.

The Breaking Barriers program is conducted by Actor Jose Yenque and his Arts For A Better Tomorrow team.
